Chapter 31 : Invitation

Accidentally Choosing the Strongest Alpha in the Galaxy on a Blind Date

Ji Anli was startled by Jiang Jun’s intense reaction and handed him a glass of water.

“Are you okay?”

Although General Lin could be quite intimidating when not smiling, the suggestion to watch together was bold but shouldn’t have scared him like this, right?

Jiang Jun now believed that General Lin did care about little Anli.

He cleared his throat and glanced at the still calm person.

At first, he thought this guy was really good at holding back but it turned out it was all an act.

Little Anli didn’t know much about interstellar people with genetic defects but Jiang Jun had been hiding his own since childhood and had learned a lot about it.

General Lin, being similar, surely knew the Ancient Blue Star saying about peacocks displaying their feathers.

Even though peacocks were rare now and the saying wasn’t mentioned much, General Lin definitely knew it.

When Jiang Jun first saw news about Ji Anli on the star network, he had just returned from a mission.

At that time, Ji Anli had already been unilaterally rejected by the Wen family and had evolved into a rare SSS-level healer.

The higher-ups were choosing a suitable fiancé for him.

If Ji Anli had only been rejected due to genetic anomalies, Jiang Jun would have gone back without hesitation to marry him and face the challenge together.

But Ji Anli was an SSS healer, and he… had genetic defects.

So Jiang Jun had to suppress the feelings that had unknowingly arisen since his differentiation.

By the time he came to his senses, Ji Anli had already chosen a fiancé and it was none other than General Lin who also had genetic defects.

This left Jiang Jun bewildered and incredulous, filled with regret, bitterness and a tangle of complex emotions.

When he heard that General Lin would be escorting the old duke to Planet A, he volunteered for the mission.

He initially thought little Anli was being threatened but seeing how the two interacted, it wasn’t the case.

When he learned that little Anli had willingly chosen General Lin and the reason was because of General Lin’s second form, he couldn’t help but probe a bit.

He wanted to know what place his cherished friend held in General Lin’s heart.

If General Lin cared then fine but if not…

He had just believed the other party’s façade, only to find out he was being played.

The rumors about General Lin were completely inaccurate!

He found the other party to be quite petty, even pouring him water, waiting for little Anli to finish drinking and then deliberately saying such things.

Jiang Jun looked up and met Lin Jing’s gaze without a change in expression.

After a moment, he slowly spoke again, “General Lin, you have a second form yourself. Is it appropriate to look at someone else’s?”

Lin Jing’s face remained unchanged but he was amused inside, is it appropriate for you to display your feathers in front of someone else’s partner?

He spoke generously, making the distinction clear, “I don’t mind personally but we’re in the castle now with many people around.

Anli is a married man and being alone with Major General Jiang in your second form could cause rumors. But with me, his partner here, it’s not an issue.”

In short, I’m doing this for my partner’s sake but you’re here to ruin my partner’s reputation.

Jiang Jun raised his hand and downed the glass of water Ji Anli had just refilled for him then suddenly looked at Ji Anli.

“I think General Lin is right. I didn’t think it through before.”

Ji Anli pondered for a moment and nodded in agreement.

Lin Jing noticed a fleeting glint in Jiang Jun’s eyes and, for some reason, felt a sense of foreboding.

Jiang Jun then said, “But I can’t go back on my promise to Little Anli, right? How about this. Since meeting alone seems inappropriate, why don’t I invite you two to a gathering of the Second Form Alliance the night you leave after the Duke’s matters are settled?”

Ji Anli curiously asked, “Second Form Alliance? What’s that?”

Jiang Jun grinned, revealing two sharp canine teeth and glanced at Lin Jing with a hint of mischief.

“The Second Form Mutual Aid Alliance, composed of interstellar beings with genetic defects who can transform into a second form, and their families.

There’s a weekly gathering to facilitate experience sharing and finding allies with common interests. On that day, you can attend wearing a mask to keep your identity hidden or you can show up in your second form.

Little Anli, you’ll see many species you’ve never encountered before… If you’re lucky, you might even see a young one with genetic defects born to a normal couple.

Last time, I was lucky enough to see a two-month-old puppy. All that fluff and those little baby sounds, it was so adorable it melted my heart.”

Ji Anli was completely captivated by Jiang Jun’s words, his eyes shining.

He had thought seeing Jiang Jun transform into a peacock would be lucky enough.

Could there really be such a wonderful gathering in this world?

In his mind, he imagined a couple holding a puppy in its second form, dressed in dog clothes, tilting its head and sticking its tongue out at him and maybe even getting to touch its propeller-like tail.

Ji Anli quickly turned his head to look at Lin Jing, recalling how he looked in a suit.

If a snow wolf could wear a suit…

Although that’s impossible, he suddenly thought of a question.

His partner might not always be by his side or transform into his second form for him to touch at any time.

But… what if he had a little wolf cub in its second form?

Lin Jing had beastman genes and was a snow wolf.

If they could have a child, there was a fifty percent chance it would be a little wolf cub, snow-white and fluffy like a snowball, crawling towards him with little whimpers, wanting to be held.

Ji Anli swallowed, his mind going blank.

Once this thought emerged, he couldn’t suppress it until he remembered that those with genetic defects had never had offspring

Lin Jing noticed that when Jiang Jun mentioned the gathering, Ji Anli was normal at first but then he started staring at him intently, making Lin Jing feel uneasy.

Ji Anli’s eyes were bright, his face flushed, clearly excited.

Lin Jing asked in confusion, “What happen?”

Ji Anli snapped out of it at the sound of Lin Jing’s voice, not daring to look at him, afraid that Lin Jing might figure out what he was thinking.

After all, he was worried about divorcing General Lin in the future so he was considering having a furry companion of his own.

It was a thought that was hard to explain.

What would General Lin think of him?

He’d probably suspect that Ji Anli chose him just to have a wolf pup and then leave the father behind.

Ji Anli shook his head at Lin Jing and turned to Jiang Jun, asking, “Have you ever seen someone with a genetic defect give birth to a cub with the same beastman genes?”

Jiang Jun was stumped by the question.

“Well…”

He glanced at Lin Jing and noticed that Lin Jing had his merits.

At least, he didn’t get angry no matter what Little Anli said, even when asked such a sensitive question.

He really didn’t care about such things.

Jiang Jun finally replied, “I’ve never seen it. After all, it’s difficult for interstellar people with genetic defects to have offspring so there are fewer people to choose from.

Given the circumstances, even if someone did manage to have a child, they would likely choose to keep it a secret.

Similarly, normal Alpha & Omega couples might also have offspring with genetic defects.

That’s the Alliance’s initial purpose, to let children with genetic defects meet others like them early on so they don’t feel too special.

Of course, some people also hope to find a partner with similar genetic defects at these gatherings.”

Ji Anli understood.

In short, there’s no public record of it, but who knows what happens in private.

So, with such a high compatibility with Lin Jing, could they have offspring?

Or rather, what’s the chance of having a little wolf pup?

Jiang Jun didn’t give a definitive answer in front of General Lin, suggesting they think it over.

After all, the old duke would be around for a few more days and he could transform into a peacock and go in his second form.

With so many people around, General Lin probably wouldn’t say anything, right?

Thinking this, Jiang Jun felt a chill down his spine from General Lin’s occasional glances and decided to leave first.

Once Jiang Jun left, Lin Jing looked at Ji Anli with a complicated expression.

“Do you… want to go to the gathering?”

If Ji Anli wanted to see it, Lin Jing wouldn’t mind accompanying him.

But Ji Anli had a hidden illness and seemed particularly fond of fur.

If Ji Anli saw more fluffy things, would he start thinking about other furry creatures?

Ji Anli said, “I do want to go, but do you want to? Don’t worry, I know you’re not comfortable exposing your second form in front of others. We can go in our normal forms.”

Lin Jing didn’t say whether he wanted to or not.

“Think it over. If you want to go when it’s time to leave, I’ll go with you.”

Ji Anli absentmindedly agreed, his mind occupied by a thought he couldn’t shake off.

He bit his lip and decided to ask, “I have a question…”

Lin Jing looked at Ji Anli, who was sneaking glances at him. His eyes were clear and bright but with a hint of embarrassment as if he wanted to say something but hesitated.

Lin Jing’s heart skipped a beat for no reason.

Being stared at by Ji Anli made him feel a bit uncomfortable so he slightly averted his gaze.

“Ask away.”

Ji Anli wasn’t one to keep things to himself so since Lin Jing told him to ask, he went ahead, “If, and I’m just saying if, we were to have a wolf baby in the future…”

Lin Jing’s wandering thoughts were instantly dispelled and he looked back in a daze, “Have a… wolf baby?”

Ji Anli, “Ahem. Just if. I know the chances are low but what if, right?”

Lin Jing met his gaze which was practically sparkling and suddenly realized what he had been thinking.

The other person liked snow wolves so much so when he heard about puppies, he also wanted a wolf pup?

“Hmm, go on.”

So was he just thinking about how they could have a snow wolf pup with the same fur color as him?

The thought made Lin Jing feel a bit parched and increasingly uneasy.

Ji Anli placed his hands neatly on his knees, eyes downcast with a tuft of hair sticking up on his head, looking particularly obedient, “So if we have a wolf baby in the future, if after the detox we find we’re not suitable and get divorced, can the wolf baby stay with me?”

Although Lin Jing might think he wanted to keep the pup and leave the father, the chances of them having a pup were small so it was worth asking, right?

When Lin Jing finally understood what he said, “??”

Lin Jing looked at Ji Anli with a complicated expression, thinking the other was considering whether they could have a child in the future which was already a difficult step.

But he skipped right over that step and was already thinking about who would get custody if they divorced.

Ji Anli hadn’t received an answer from Lin Jing and worried he might be angry, glanced up to sneak a peek, only to meet Lin Jing’s complex and indescribable gaze.

After a moment, he heard Lin Jing’s rare, somewhat difficult voice, “This question is a bit premature.”

Not to mention whether he could successfully detox and survive or whether they could even have a child, how did Ji Anli skip right over the process of them fully marking each other to the result of having a pup?

…..
Ji Anli felt a sense of loss only after Lin Jing left. Jiang Jun shouldn’t have mentioned puppies, it just made him think about it day and night.

He couldn’t resist even a peacock, let alone such an adorable wolf pup.

Ji Anli was quite curious whether he and Lin Jing could actually have a child so he directly asked the system in his mind, “Is there something wrong with my and Lin Jing’s bodies?”

The system responded quickly this time, “According to the rules, I can’t disclose that.”

Ji Anli thought for a moment and changed his approach, “Since this is a book, can the interstellar people with genetic defects in the later parts of the book have their own offspring?”

The system fell into an eerie silence and after a while, it reluctantly replied, “I can’t disclose that.”

Ji Anli detected its hesitation which meant there was no rule against it but the system was definitely giving the least troublesome answer.

Smiling, he asked, “Since you guys are the invincible system of the universe, do you have any medicine that can improve the physique and increase the fertility of interstellar people with genetic defects?

You wouldn’t say you don’t, right? Then you wouldn’t be invincible, and you’d have to change your name.”

Sure enough, this time the system didn’t say it couldn’t disclose.

After a while, it responded, “…Yes.”

Ji Anli laughed, feeling completely at ease.

Even if interstellar people with genetic defects currently had no offspring as long as the system was around, he was sure to have a little wolf cub.

Since that was the case, Ji Anli’s eyes flashed with a cunning light, “I have a chance for you to earn some free touch points, do you want it?”

The system felt that the host had no good intentions but… he was offering free touch points, especially when he owed so many…

The system couldn’t resist its curiosity and asked, “What kind of opportunity?”

Ji Anli, “How about I exchange touch points for plot details? You can name a value for the exchange and we can negotiate. After all, it’s a good deal, isn’t it?”

System, “That’s against the rules.”

Ji Anli, “Rules are dead, people are alive. If Lin Jing really dies, I’ll be heartbroken and won’t be in the mood to earn healing points.

If something happens to me and I die too, no one will repay those healing points. Besides, it’s not like I’m asking you to reveal the plot for free, right?”

The system was persuaded and said it would inform him of the result later then stopped responding.

Ji Anli was just asking, not expecting a real chance.

Suddenly, he felt that his current two thousand touch points might not be enough, especially if knowing the key plot could help him foresee any danger.

For the next two days, the system didn’t appear and Ji Anli went from initial excitement to numbness.

Did it ditch him?

Why hasn’t it shown up?

The system didn’t appear but Lin Jing came back early that afternoon with two pieces of news

Ji Anli was a bit distracted at first.

When he heard the first piece of news, he didn’t pay much attention, thinking it was expected and not surprising.

In his past life, Yiya was the new Duke so of course, the bloodline gene verification matched.

Lin Jing’s first piece of news was just that but after hearing the second piece, Ji Anli’s heart inexplicably skipped a beat.

Lin Jing noticed his initial distraction and when Ji Anli suddenly looked up, he reassured him, “This trip isn’t a big deal, just accompanying him and the old Duke to his adoptive parents’ home for a memorial.

After that, we’ll prepare for two days and then head back to the Capital Star. While I’m away, you can think about whether you want to attend that gathering Jiang Jun mentioned the day after tomorrow night.”

Although Yiya’s adoptive parents’ home was on Planet A, it was some distance from the castle, requiring a day’s travel back and forth.

Ji Anli frowned, “Can’t you not go?”

With Lin Jing, Yiya, and the old Duke all traveling together, it felt like a full buff stack, reminding him of an extreme two-for-one exchange.

Lin Jing shook his head, “The old Duke feels guilty towards this son after learning the gene test results. Since it’s a memorial for his adoptive parents… it’s reasonable. This is my duty.”

The old Duke couldn’t bear to refuse Yiya and Lin Jing’s duty was to protect the old Duke so there was no way he couldn’t go.

Lin Jing knew Ji Anli was worried about him.

He sensed it from the fact that Ji Anli insisted on coming along this time but some things couldn’t be avoided.

Just as Ji Anli was about to say something, the system finally appeared, “Host, I can reveal some plot details but considering this involves the secrets of heaven, it requires not only your touch value but also your own luck.”

Ji Anli couldn’t care less about Lin Jing at this moment and quickly asked in his mind, “What luck?”

Where would he have something like that?

System, “It’s not real luck, just your kind of luck. To avoid violating the secrets of heaven, we’re planning to use a blind box draw method. If the host draws the plot you want to know, it would be your fate and it doesn’t count as us revealing the secrets of heaven.”

Ji Anli: Can it really work like this?

But having something is better than nothing.

System, “Host, think it through. After all, the plot you draw might not be useful and once opened, it can’t be returned.”

Ji Anli, “Hurry, hurry, how much touch value for one draw? Am I that kind of person?”

System, “One hundred touch value per draw.”

Ji Anli, “What a rip-off…”

System, “So, are you going to draw, Host?”

Ji Anli, “Draw!”

Almost as soon as Ji Anli’s voice fell, a transparent box appeared in front of him.

It was a simple window with just one button and a row of patterned, wordless cards stacked together, facing away.

Ji Anli looked at the button labeled “100 Touch Points per Draw” and pressed it without hesitation.

As the points were deducted, the cards began to shuffle randomly.

Soon, one card shot out and landed on the blank panel below, waiting for Ji Anli to flip it over.

Ji Anli stared at the card, feeling inexplicably nervous.

After all, with only a hundred touch points, he had less than two thousand in total, meaning he could only draw about a dozen cards.

As he raised his hand and tapped it, the card spun around, revealing a card with a storyline printed on it.

When he saw the words clearly, Ji Anli’s eyes widened involuntarily.
