Chapter 28 : Clingy

Accidentally Choosing the Strongest Alpha in the Galaxy on a Blind Date

When Ji Anli lowered his head, his consciousness was already a bit hazy.

The heat spread from his flushed face to his entire body as the effect of the spray wore off and the heat came on stronger and more intense than before.

All he could hear was his own clear breathing, accompanied by the sound of his heartbeat, pounding in his ears.

At the same time, a rich, familiar floral scent spread around him.

He knew it was the scent of his pheromones, or perhaps… not just his.

He remembered that his and Lin Jing’s pheromones smelled the same. So was the scent surrounding him now his own or both of theirs?

Just as Ji Anli felt like a fish out of water being grilled, a cool fingertip brushed the back of his neck but it quickly warmed to match his skin’s heat.

It seemed like someone was saying something by his ear but Ji Anli’s mind was blank, unable to comprehend a single word.

The next moment, his neck suddenly felt like it was being bitten, a tingling pain spreading through him and Ji Anli’s consciousness completely slipped away…….

When Ji Anli woke up the next day, he felt like he had slept exceptionally well.

It had been a long time since he had such a sweet sleep.

His whole body was sunk into the soft bed with only one side of his fair face exposed and his jet-black, soft hair draped over his ear.

The only difference was the bandage-like patch on the back of his neck.

Half-covered by the fine strands of hair, he inadvertently brushed against it.

Half-asleep, Ji Anli reached out to touch it and as he did, he opened his eyes then gently closed them again.

After a moment, he suddenly opened his eyes wide.

Memories of last night came flooding back and he quickly sat up.

Seeing that he was still wearing the same long clothes and pants as last night, he breathed a sigh of relief.

He had only accepted a temporary mark last night so he shouldn’t have done anything out of line, right?

Ji Anli hadn’t expected the heat to be so intense.

His last memory was of being enveloped in a rich floral scent as if he were trapped in a sea of flowers, unable to escape.

Until something seemed to gnaw at the back of his neck and then he remembered nothing.

Ji Anli trusted Lin Jing’s character. The other person wouldn’t do anything beyond the scope of a temporary mark.

But… he wasn’t confident in himself.

What if the heat caused him to lose control and do something that troubled Lin Jing?

Wouldn’t his reputation be ruined?

Thinking of this, Ji Anli nervously called out to the system, planning to check his current touch points.

Before the heat spray wore off, he was obsessed with petting the wolf but he still remembered the touch points.

At that time, he had completed four tasks in total: one daily task and three touch tasks—[Loving Hug], [Whispering Close], [Neck-to-Neck] and [Waist Embrace] —for a total of 190 touch points.

But now, as Ji Anli stared at the panel displayed in front of him, he was dumbfounded by the available touch points ??

Did he see it wrong?

But if not, why did the 190 touch points he thought he had now become a whopping 410 touch points?

Could the system have given him so many touch points for free?

That was obviously impossible.

So where did the extra 220 touch points come from?

The system, perhaps hearing Ji Anli calling it in his mind, popped up, “Why don’t you check the task touch point acquisition details yourself, Host?”

Ji Anli sat there in a daze, clutching the blanket.

He had a bad feeling.

Did he really do something incredible to Lin Jing last night while in a heat-induced haze?

Or did he accidentally trigger and complete a high-touch-point random task?

In the end, Ji Anli decided to check the details.

When he saw the last few items, his ears burned but he forced himself to look closely, “Wasn’t it said that the partner touch task could only be done once a day, refreshing at midnight? How did I get it once and there’s still another one here?”

System, “Since it’s a partner touch task, naturally it’s bound to the partner and it counts for both sides. However, it depends on who initiates it to determine which side gets the credit. Ultimately, all the touch points will go to the host. Isn’t this partner binding a win-win situation?”

At the time, the host thought he wasn’t being considerate but look, it’s such a considerate system for the host.

Ji Anli felt his face getting even hotter.

“How is that possible?” Hugging and [whispering sweet nothings] are one thing but [initiating a kiss] is impossible.

It’s not that he doesn’t believe it. No one would believe that Lin Jing would kiss him without his consent.

The system refreshed the data, “Oh, this wasn’t done by the partner. The host actively allowed the kiss so it counts for the host.”

Ji Anli, “…………”

The system probably sensed that the host wasn’t feeling well and kindly added, “Even though it was just a forehead kiss, it still counts as a real kiss so the task is considered complete.”

Ji Anli’s emotions were all over the place and he laughed in exasperation.

“Can’t you just say it all at once?”

He almost thought he was on heat and came up with such an absurd reason, initiating a kiss?

Just hearing it made him feel like he couldn’t face Lin Jing properly.

When he was young, he had a problem with feeling insecure and was afraid to sleep alone for a while.

His parents would take turns comforting him to sleep and before leaving, they would kiss his forehead.

Over time, he would insist on having his forehead kissed before sleeping every night.

Just looking at these completed tasks, Ji Anli could imagine how he must have acted when he was on heat, pestering Lin Jing to comfort, hug, and kiss him…

At this moment, he heard very light footsteps approaching.

Ji Anli instinctively pulled the blanket over his head, lying on his side with only a tuft of hair sticking out.

Lin Jing entered quietly and saw this scene.

He hadn’t intended to disturb Ji Anli but it was almost noon and there wasn’t much time left before their appointment with the old doctor.

He had to come and check.

As soon as Lin Jing entered, he realized Ji Anli was pretending to sleep.

Thinking about what happened yesterday, his usually calm and serious face showed a hint of embarrassment.

He lowered his eyes to hide the gentle smile in them and softly approached, kneeling by the bed, speaking in a low voice as if afraid to startle him, “Are you awake?”

Ji Anli, with only the tip of his ear showing from under the blanket, was blushing.

Pretending to sleep was definitely not going to work so he acted as if he had just woken up, making a sound and slowly pulling the blanket down to reveal his round black eyes.

“Just woke up. What’s up?”

Lin Jing looked at Ji Anli in the dimly lit room with the curtains drawn, resisting the urge to reach out and touch his head.

In a soft voice, he explained, “Yesterday, the old doctor said that after a temporary mark… you need to check the gland the next day to see if it worked. I scheduled it for the afternoon so we can go after lunch.”

Lin Jing was worried that any delay might affect Ji Anli.

His situation was already unique and if there wasn’t a temporary mark then… they’d have to start all over again.

But the military could issue a mission at any time and if he had to leave when that happened, he feared it wouldn’t be good for Ji Anli.

So, after calculating the time, he made an appointment in the morning, sticking to Ji Anli’s habit of going to the Second Hospital on the Capital Star.

Ji Anli didn’t expect it to be almost noon already.

After responding, he noticed Lin Jing still crouching in front of him.

Initially, he felt a bit uncomfortable but remembering that he didn’t recall anything after last night’s heat, he only knew from the mission report.

But… Lin Jing was the one who knew everything so he could just pretend not to know.

Seeing Lin Jing looking even more uncomfortable, Ji Anli feigned ignorance and asked, “Is there something else? Oh, yesterday my spray wore off, and I went into heat. I don’t know what happened afterward. I didn’t say or do anything to you because of my condition, did I?”

Lin Jing hesitated, wanting to mention that Ji Anli had been particularly dependent on him during his heat and had made some requests.

To calm him down, Lin Jing had complied.

But with Ji Anli’s question, he simply shook his head lightly, “No, nothing happened.”

After a pause, he even comforted Ji Anli, “You fell asleep quickly yesterday, no loss of control.”

Ji Anli felt even guiltier, “Really?”

His question made Lin Jing leave quickly, as if something was chasing him.

Ji Anli watched this scene and thought it was nothing.

Last night was just his unconscious behavior during the heat period.

Besides, it was just a forehead kiss.

In a great mood, Ji Anli washed up and went downstairs.

After lunch, the two headed to the Second Hospital on the Capital Star.

The bandage on Ji Anli’s nape was applied by Lin Jing after a temporary mark to prevent pheromone loss from reducing its effectiveness.

But as they walked down the VIP corridor of the Second Hospital, Lin Jing could see the bandage under Ji Anli’s hair at the nape of his neck.

He wondered if his mark was still there.

The thought brought back memories of last night when Ji Anli, tormented by the heat, had been dazed and kept saying he was uncomfortable, burrowing into Lin Jing’s arms…

Lost in thought, Lin Jing almost bumped into Ji Anli when he stopped.

Fortunately, Lin Jing halted just in time, his gaze sharp and deep.

Across from them, Wen Zhen and Ji Chenhao hadn’t expected to run into Ji Anli and Lin Jing here, especially with the two standing so close as if Lin Jing was holding Ji Anli in his arms.

The sight made Wen Zhen’s eyes ache.

Ji Anli felt unlucky seeing Wen Zhen and Ji Chenhao but the form in their hands looked familiar.

He raised an eyebrow, “What? Blocking the way and not moving? Do you want me to say congratulations?”

Wen Zhen realized something and instinctively tried to hide the premarital examination form behind him.

But then he thought it unnecessary, especially after what his parents had been telling him these past few days.

He lowered his eyes, feeling particularly embarrassed.

In just a few days, he went from being the pride of the family to being kicked out of the Wen family with nowhere to go.

Meanwhile, the person he once abandoned was doing better and better.

This contrast tormented him constantly.

But Ji Anli’s words from those two times still echoed in his ears.

He didn’t want to hear them a third time nor did he want to see that look in Ji Anli’s eyes as if he was being trampled into the mud.

Ji Chenhao quickly regained his composure.

This time, he really didn’t run into Ji Anli on purpose.

Ji Anli had registered for marriage with a general who had genetic defects.

Even though their compatibility was high and the outside world spoke well of them, if they didn’t have offspring, everything would still be a joke.

Inferior genes would still be inferior and those with beastman genes wouldn’t change.

By then, it would be Ji Anli’s time to cry.

Moreover, from the news Ji Chenhao had heard, if things went as planned, Ji Anli would soon become a widower…

Would Ji Anli regret his choice then?

He could have chosen the more powerful Fifth Prince but he chose a general with genetic defects, General Lin.

Although Wen Zhen was kicked out of the Wen family with his parents, he didn’t believe the Wen family would fall so easily.

So when both families proposed marriage to break the recent streak of bad luck and restore their image, both families agreed out of their own selfish interests.

That’s why he came for the pre-marital checkup today. Who would have thought he’d run into Ji Anli.

Especially now, with Ji Anli standing in front of General Lin, smiling with a rosy complexion, his good looks contrasting sharply with Ji Chenhao’s haggard appearance from lack of sleep.

It was like heaven and earth, making Ji Chenhao’s jealousy surge, wishing he could wipe the smile off Ji Anli’s face.

Ji Anli couldn’t be bothered to waste words with Ji Chenhao and walked forward.

Steward Ji had taken the blame for those thugs on Ji Chenhao’s behalf as President An had already informed him.

But Uncle Ji must have spent a lot to keep the steward’s mouth shut.

Now it’s just the steward but soon the steward’s whole family would be entangled with them.

By then, they’d have to keep paying to keep them quiet but there would come a time when they couldn’t pay anymore.

Like now, Ji Chenhao was surprised to see him, clearly not intending to block him which meant he chose to come here himself…

For Ji Chenhao who usually only went to the best First Hospital, to choose the Second Hospital, it could only mean one thing, Uncle Ji was out of money.

So whatever purpose Uncle Ji had for marrying into the Wen family at this time, only he himself knew.

When the two families clashed, it would be a mess. Not to mention, Ji Chenhao wouldn’t just sit back and do nothing against him.

Next time, it wouldn’t be so easy to dodge.

As Ji Anli and Lin Jing passed by, Wen Zhen didn’t move for a long time.

Ji Chenhao looked back in confusion, “They’ve already gone into the doctor’s office and you’re still watching? It’s time for the test.”

Wen Zhen suddenly crouched down, clutching his head, unsure if he was angry or regretful, “He actually, actually let Lin Jing mark him… Ah, why? How could he, they’ve only known each other for such a short time?”

Ji Chenhao was also surprised.

Thinking back to the glimpse he caught of the bandage, considering they had already registered and had no reason to come to the hospital now, it could only mean… marking.

Ji Chenhao thought Ji Anli was crazy.

Was it really just to get back at Wen Zhen?

He actually went through with it and let General Lin mark him?

Ji Chenhao suddenly chuckled softly, crouching down and lowering his voice, “Your suffering is useless. Why not… wait until General Lin dies and then take him back?”

Wen Zhen released his hands, frowning as he looked at Ji Chenhao who was so close, “What do you mean?”

Ji Chenhao, seeing the pain and struggle in Wen Zhen’s eyes, lowered his voice, “I have reliable information saying that General Lin won’t live long.

When the time comes, he’ll naturally become a widower, and that’s when he’ll need comfort the most.

If something unexpected happens or he disappears… no one would suspect, right?

Don’t you want to have him forever? To keep him somewhere, belonging only to you?”

By then, Wen Zhen would want the person and he would want Ji Anli’s healing power…

…..
Ji Anli and Lin Jing entered the office.

The doctor had already seen the appointment details and used an instrument to scan Ji Anli’s neck, quickly displaying the data.

The doctor was momentarily stunned by the numbers, “This…”

Lin Jing, worried about Ji Anli’s condition, stood up to look, “What’s wrong? Is there a problem? Was it unsuccessful?”

The doctor quickly composed himself, looking at the two with a complex expression, “No, it wasn’t unsuccessful. It was too successful. This is the first time I’ve seen a temporary mark be so effective, almost like a permanent one. Although it’s only for a short time, it’s enough to stabilize Mr. Ji’s current disorder.”

No wonder they were a 100% compatible pair.

This was definitely the most compatible couple he had seen in all aspects.

Perhaps, as speculated online, they might indeed have the first offspring of a genetically defective interstellar person?

Lin Jing breathed a sigh of relief, “Is there anything else I need to do during this time?”

The doctor waved his hand, “Not much else, except Mr. Ji’s situation is special.

Although the heat is temporarily suppressed, because of the temporary mark, General Lin’s pheromones have been injected into Mr. Ji’s glands.

During this time, he will be particularly dependent on and clingy to General Lin, or his emotions may be unstable… but these are within the normal range. If Mr. Ji encounters situations he doesn’t understand, there’s no need to worry.

As for General Lin, he should be considerate of his partner, right? Sometimes, you need to take the initiative to care for your partner in such situations, rather than waiting for them to speak up.”

Lin Jing had already learned this from the old doctor yesterday and responded earnestly, “I will.”

Ji Anli heard those two words and felt like the other person was making a vow.

It was formal yet inexplicably reassuring.

He subconsciously smiled but didn’t take the doctor’s words too seriously.

As long as he wasn’t on a heat period where he lost control of his rationality, how could he possibly change his personality to become dependent and clingy towards General Lin?

After Ji Anli and Lin Jing finished their check-ups and found no issues, they went home and Lin Jing soon left again.

Ji Anli knew he had a mission and didn’t ask much.

With the heat disorder resolved, Ji Anli felt at ease and even had the leisure to open the task list before bed.

With over four hundred touch points in hand now, there was no rush to complete more tasks.

However, seeing those touch tasks, the image of the wolf tail from yesterday flashed in his mind, leaving him a bit distracted.

When he came back to his senses, his fingers had already subconsciously pressed on a random task from the third type of touch tasks.

He hadn’t completed this type before, mainly because they were random with either high or low touch points.

At first glance, most of the tasks he refreshed had low touch points but now…

Ji Anli’s eyes locked onto a string of zeros.

Wow, was this a good touch point task he could actually get?

Among the single-digit touch points on the entire panel, this three-digit touch task stood out like a lone star.

Ji Anli swallowed.

The slightly higher task he completed before was the second type of partner touch task, like [neck-to-neck] which could ultimately earn 50 touch points.

But it showed as X5 touch points. With a final X10 first-class partner it will be 50.

Among the X2, X5 and X6, this X100 caught Ji Anli’s eyes. He couldn’t help but murmur, “If this is X10, wouldn’t that mean getting 1000 touch points in the end?”

He was really ambitious now.

In all his time since being reborn, he hadn’t accumulated so many touch points.

The system kindly reminded him, “Host, don’t be blinded by the high touch points. Generally, these… aren’t easy to obtain.”

Ji Anli, ‘Not easy? How hard could it be?’

He was putting it out there. Even if the system’s boss came tonight, nothing would stop him from getting those thousand touch points.

Healing potions that could be bought five tubes at a time could save five lives at critical moments.

He wanted to see just how difficult this was.

After Ji Anli clicked on it, he fell silent… quietly folding the task details.

No wonder it was a task worth a thousand touch points.

Other tasks just had a name but this one had three lines.

[Model Partner Task] X100 touch points.

1. Prepare a bowl of love meal for your partner;

2. Actively ask for a goodnight kiss;

3. Spend the night sleeping in your partner’s arms.

The system seemed to notice the host had been silent for too long and kindly reminded, “You can’t miss any of these three points. You need to choose to accept the task in advance. Tomorrow at dawn counts as one night. Completing the task will earn you a thousand touch points.”

Ji Anli caught the key point, “What if I fail? Is there a punishment?”

System, “Yes, if you choose to accept but don’t complete it, there will be a random punishment. Either all the touch points you’ve previously earned will be cleared or you’ll face a random punishment as long as it doesn’t threaten your life.”

Ji Anli fell back, staring at the ceiling without a word.

System, “Maybe you should just give up. After all, you can’t even complete the first task. You can’t cook at all.”

Just the thought of a love meal was probably out of the question for the host.

But Ji Anli sat up again, eyes shining brightly, “Isn’t it just win or lose?”

The system had a bad feeling upon hearing this.

Sure enough. It watched as Ji Anli took out a wristband and sent a message to Lin Jing, “Are you coming back tonight?”

Lin Jing’s reply came quickly, “I’m already on my way back.”

Ji Anli confirmed the answer and before the system could react, clicked ‘accept’

System: Well, now there’s no chance to back out

Ji Anli got out of bed, walked downstairs with a spring in his step and checking the time, took out six tubes of Nutrient Solution.

He then grabbed two exquisite plates.

The robot buzzed around him, asking, “Master, master, is there anything I can help with?”

Ji Anli replied, “Find two candlesticks and some candles.”

The robot immediately buzzed off to search while Ji Anli started opening the Nutrient Solution and squeezed a heart shape onto each plate.

The system scanned the situation and fell silent.

Ji Anli set out knives and forks, carried the two heart-shaped Nutrient Solution meals out. After arranging them, he placed the candlesticks the robot found, lit the candles and turned off the lights.

Admiring his handiwork, he said, “Look at this! a perfect ‘heart’ meal. This heart is so symmetrical.”

System: Yeah, right.

Ji Anli urged, “Quick, scan and input the data. Did you calculate the first item?”

The system was baffled, wondering how this could count.

But after scanning with a ‘ding’ Ji Anli opened the task, and sure enough, a checkmark appeared after the number 1.

The system had a hunch that maybe… this thousand touch value could really be earned by the host.

When Lin Jing returned, he thought something had happened at home.

He checked his wristband and saw it was indeed a message from Ji Anli.

He thought Ji Anli needed something and came back but why were the lights off?

The villa seemed fine and when he appeared, Xie Lie peeked out, saw it was him and didn’t stop him.

As he used his iris to open the villa door and slowly approached, he realized it wasn’t completely dark. There was a faint light in the dining room.

Lin Jing stood stunned at the door, looking at Ji Anli sitting at the dining table.

Hearing the noise, Ji Anli turned around, his eyes shining brightly in the candlelight beside him.

He looked as if he was glowing and Lin Jing’s heart melted.

He closed the door and slowly approached, “Why are you still up so late?”

Ji Anli pointed to the seat opposite him, “Look at the dinner I made for you. Yours is strawberry-flavored and mine is lime-flavored. If you want to try mine, I’ll switch with you.”

Lin Jing shook his head, feeling warm and touched, “Thank you for your hard work.”

Ji Anli, “It’s not hard, not hard at all.”

It’s just a bit troublesome to arrange the nutrient packs on the plate, nothing to be tired about.

Lin Jing clearly enjoyed it, especially as he looked at the candlelight.

Thoughts of the ancient Blue Star’s descriptions flashed through his mind.

A candlelight dinner—the doctor was right.

Ji Anli was already starting to show dependence and affection towards him.

If it were before, given their arranged marriage, the other party definitely wouldn’t have done something so symbolic of a couple in love.

He didn’t expect the temporary marking to affect him so quickly.

For a moment, he thought this was a subconscious reaction from the other which made him even softer, his voice particularly gentle, “Did you feel uncomfortable anywhere today?”

Ji Anli was eager to complete the next two tasks and instinctively shook his head, “No…”

Then he remembered he needed to use his loss of control as an excuse and quickly corrected himself, “Well, sometimes I feel uncomfortable, sometimes I don’t.”

Lin Jing’s gaze softened even more.

Thinking about how he would be leaving for a mission in a few days, he offered, “Do you need me to help ease your hidden illness?”

Ji Anli couldn’t hide the joy in his eyes, “Can you?”

Lin Jing replied earnestly, “Of course. We are partners, aren’t we? Besides, you made me… such a nice dinner.”

The system in his mind kept repeating ‘such a nice dinner’ and fell silent.

The nutrient packs were filling and Ji Anli was quite satisfied.

After washing up and lying in bed, he listened for any sounds.

When Lin Jing appeared, his eyes lit up, “Have you changed?”

The snow wolf walked over with light steps, leapt gently onto the bed and lay on the blanket, voluntarily resting its head near Ji Anli.

It even exposed one sharp ear for Ji Anli’s convenience.

Ji Anli resisted the temptation of the sharp ear, knowing that small impatience could lead to big losses.

He lifted the blanket to let the snow wolf lie inside then turned to lie side by side with it before speaking, “I have a rather presumptuous request. May I ask it? Of course, if you’re not willing, that’s perfectly fine.”

He wanted to complete the task but not against Lin Jing’s wishes.

If Lin Jing was unwilling, he would choose to accept the punishment.

Lin Jing nodded lightly.

Facing the beast’s eyes, Ji Anli felt guilty, lowering his gaze, his ears turning red instinctively, “Can you stay in this form tonight and let me hold you while I sleep?”

He originally thought Lin Jing would hesitate as this request was definitely different from just a hug.

He was prepared for either a hesitant refusal or agreement

As soon as he finished speaking, the snow wolf nodded. Its eyes filled with a gentle light as if Ji Anli’s request wasn’t unreasonable at all and even encouraged him to make more demanding requests.

Ji Anli thought about the doctor’s instructions from earlier in the day.

Did the snow wolf think he was particularly dependent on him because of his condition and that’s why he agreed so readily?

The snow wolf quickly lay down obediently, lifting a paw to further confirm Ji Anli’s thoughts.

As he lay down and gently leaned over, he was immediately enveloped in a fluffy warmth. When he looked up, he could see the snow wolf right in front of him.

Perhaps his gaze was too focused, the snow wolf quietly watched him while recalling the scene from last night when Ji Anli nestled in his arms, allowing him to kiss and hug him.

After a moment’s thought, the snow wolf leaned forward and lightly touched his forehead before pulling back.

Ji Anli felt a warmth on his forehead, the breath brushing against the strands of hair on his forehead, making him feel dizzy.

It was only after a moment that he realized Lin Jing had helped him complete the ‘initiated kiss’

Was he being too considerate?

Ji Anli didn’t know how he fell asleep afterward, only that he felt like he was lying on a cloud, his whole body sinking into the clouds, sleeping so deeply that he didn’t want to wake up.

Unlike last night when Lin Jing left without waking him, this time, because Ji Anli was holding the snow wolf, he immediately opened his eyes at the slightest movement. Just in time to see Lin Jing who had just turned back into human form.

They were still in each other’s arms, their eyes meeting at such a close distance that neither of them moved for a moment.

Lin Jing was the first to come to his senses, quickly apologizing and releasing Ji Anli, turning his back to him as he got out of bed.

The surroundings were dim and hard to see clearly but the sky was brightening.

Ji Anli rubbed his face to get rid of the heat on it.

Lin Jing also felt a bit awkward.

As he was about to leave, he saw Ji Anli sitting up.

“Why not sleep a bit more? Do you have classes today?”

Ji Anli nodded.

“I have classes in the afternoon. Do you have a mission?”

Lin Jing thought for a moment and decided to tell him in advance.

“I have some issues to deal with these days. The day after tomorrow, I need to accompany the old duke to the Planet A, and it might take a few days before I return.”

Ji Anli found the old duke’s name familiar, like he’d heard it somewhere before but he couldn’t recall it at the moment.

He instinctively replied, “Okay, let me know in advance when you’re leaving. I have something for you.”

Lin Jing’s poison hadn’t been cured yet so he planned to exchange some healing medicine for him, in case his wounds couldn’t heal while he was away.

Lin Jing acknowledged with a nod, seeing Ji Anli lying back down.

He was about to quietly leave when Ji Anli who had just laying down, suddenly sat up abruptly.

With a frown, he stared at Lin Jing, “You just mentioned the old duke… How many dukes are there in the entire empire?”

He remembered now.

No wonder the title of the old duke sounded familiar.

In his past life, when Ji Chenhao had locked him in the basement, Ji Chenhao later used the healing power he obtained from him and the help of a noble to gain favor among the nobility on the capital star, thriving in society.

Because this noble was a great help to Ji Chenhao, Ji Chenhao had boasted about it several times in front of him, deliberately trying to provoke him, wanting Ji Anli to realize the vast difference between them now, to make Ji Anli feel pain and jealousy.

The noble Ji Chenhao spoke so highly of was the only child of the old duke.

After the old duke’s death, this new duke who inherited the title, was about the same age as Ji Chenhao.

They hit it off and almost became close friends, helping Ji Chenhao a lot.

Since the old duke was only mentioned once, Ji Anli found it familiar but didn’t think of it immediately.

But if the old duke had died back then… when did that happen?

Ji Anli’s expression suddenly turned a bit serious.

Lin Jing quickly stepped forward, thinking he was having an episode, gently patted his shoulder to comfort him, “Don’t worry, it’s just a routine mission. There’s only one old duke in the empire, the emperor’s only brother.”

Ji Anli lowered his eyes.

The only brother, the only old duke.

When Ji Chenhao was boasting, it wasn’t long before this time. It meant the old duke must have died within these few months.

In his past life, he never heard Ji Chenhao mention anyone named General Lin. So… could Lin Jing be involved in the incident with the old duke this time?

Once this thought emerged, Ji Anli couldn’t suppress it.

He was an SSS healer and moreover, he had a system.

With this in mind, Ji Anli made a decision almost without hesitation, “I’m going with you on this mission.”
