Chapter 16 : Surprise

Accidentally Choosing the Strongest Alpha in the Galaxy on a Blind Date

Lin Jing had also considered this possibility and pointed out the small print reminder next to the mandatory test items for Ji Anli to see, “They’ve thought of that too. They’ll provide inhibitors if necessary but… if anything happens, don’t hold back with me as long as you don’t get hurt.”

His voice was calm and steady, which made Ji Anli look up and meet Lin Jing’s deep eyes.

He slightly raised the corner of his mouth, “I’m just saying, if a mild stimulation is something even I, an SSS-level healer, can’t handle then I might as well quit the Healer Alliance.”

When they first met, there was some awkwardness but now they inexplicably felt much closer.

At least when Ji Anli looked at Lin Jing again, he wasn’t as resistant to these unknown items as before.

But thinking about the hidden ailment Lin Jing mentioned, even though it was something he made up to earn touch points and exchange for medicinal materials, the beneficiary was actually Lin Jing

So, during this time, if he acts as a middleman and collects some interest in advance… there’s no problem, right?

The two quickly discussed and reached a mutual decision to agree to the test.

They checked online and found that this regulation was indeed a new rule that came out at the beginning of the year and had been in effect for several months.

There was no possibility of anyone tampering with it.

Since this was a necessary step for them to get their marriage certificate, they decided to face it calmly.

Ji Anli and his partner left the small cubicle and informed the doctor of their decision.

The doctor, smiling warmly, handed them a tray and reassured them, “You were worried because you suddenly heard about these procedures and didn’t understand them. In reality, it’s just a formality. Our Second Hospital is quite humane. Except for the first item which requires an instrument to confirm the test, the second and third items can be determined by you two as a couple.”

Allowing them to confirm in advance whether they liked each other’s pheromone scent was a way to give them a heads-up before marriage.

However, some ABO couples might be in love despite disliking the scent and feel they can tolerate it.

Shouldn’t they be allowed to marry?

So, it’s quite easy to pass, as long as there are no uncontrollable situations.

If there’s an Alpha with hidden issues that might harm an Omega, that’s when special attention is given to screening in advance, as a way to protect the Omega.

Ji Anli looked at the two tubes on the tray.

“What are these?”

Doctor, “The red suppressant is for the Omega’s heat period, prepared for Mr. Ji. The blue suppressant is for the Alpha’s susceptible period, for General Lin. If you agree to accept and sign the consent form, head to that small door.
There are three items in total, just follow the process through the three rooms one by one. The steps are marked above.”

The two thanked the doctor, filled out the consent form, each took a tube of suppressant and put it in their pocket, and headed towards the small door.

Once inside, the space opened up.

Since it wasn’t a holiday, there weren’t many people, and even fewer were there for premarital testing—just the two of them.

The corridor inside was spacious with a total of four doors.

Three doors corresponded to the three tests and the fourth door was a storage room.

Ji Anli first went to the first door to use the instrument to check the Omega gland condition.

The whole process took less than five minutes.

The instrument scanned the back of his neck and within half a minute, the data was out.

Soon, it spat out a green pass card with just the number 1 on it, indicating the first test was passed.

Ji Anli was surprised at how easy it was and felt quite relieved and in a good mood.

When they entered the second door, there were two instruments this time.

They needed to place their palms on the instruments which emitted a mild inducer to trigger a slight heat, allowing their usually suppressed pheromones to release their scent

Ji Anli glanced at Lin Jing, silently asking, Who goes first?

Lin Jing looked back at him without speaking, clearly leaving the decision to Ji Anli.

Ji Anli, adhering to the principle of getting it over with quickly, stepped forward without hesitation.

They were in an arranged marriage, not real partners. So even if they didn’t like each other’s pheromone scents, it wouldn’t matter.

With this thought, Ji Anli fearlessly placed his palm on the device.

Almost simultaneously, the device started up.

Ji Anli felt a cool sensation in his palm and a tingling spread from where his hand touched the device.

Soon, not just his face but his whole body began to heat up slightly and his glands warmed as well.

However, this feeling was bearable, unlike his first heat period when he needed inhibitors to get through it.

In less than a minute, Ji Anli sensed a faint floral scent spreading.

Although he was calm, believing that either way the result would be the same, when his pheromone scent which has been a secret only to him, actually filled the air, made Ji Anli avoid looking at Lin Jing for a moment.

The scent wasn’t as strong as during his heat period but it was still pleasant.

He kept his eyes down, not looking at Lin Jing so he missed Lin Jing’s stunned expression when he caught a whiff of the familiar scent.

Perhaps it was too unexpected and it wasn’t until Ji Anli’s eyes began to turn misty and dazed for a bit of time that Lin Jing snapped out of it and pressed the “accept” button on the device beside him.

The device immediately withdrew all the inducers and cleaned the area where Ji Anli’s hand had been.

Not only that, the scent in the room was also swiftly absorbed and cleared away.

Ji Anli quickly regained his composure and glanced at the time on the “accept” button.

Lin Jing had taken nearly a minute to press it.

He thought his pheromone scent wasn’t unpleasant so why did it take Lin Jing so long to accept it?

Lin Jing felt a bit uneasy under Ji Anli’s gaze and avoided his eyes. He softly explained, “Your pheromone scent… is a bit special. I was caught off guard.”

Their pheromone scents were mutually assessed with only “accept” or “not accept” options.

Once “accept” was chosen, it meant the partner had accepted the scent. This topic couldn’t be used as an excuse to annul the marriage in the interstellar court later.

Ji Anli was puzzled.

Special?

How was it special?

It was just an ordinary floral scent, hard to pinpoint exactly what flower but it was pleasant.

When the pheromones were sparse, it was a faint cool fragrance but when intense, it was intoxicating, making one’s whole body tingle.

But just now, it was very faint, just an ordinary floral scent.

It wasn’t until Lin Jing’s pheromone scent began to spread that Ji Anli was completely taken aback.

At first, he thought it was his own pheromones not fully absorbed but when he saw Lin Jing standing there silently without looking at him. A thought hit him like a thunderbolt.

Wow, this really is… quite special

He had imagined countless scenarios of how Lin Jing would describe his pheromones as special but he never expected… that the two of them would have the same scent.

How could this be possible?

Yet, against all odds, it happened.

When the time comes, who would be able to tell whose pheromones are whose?

This way, there wouldn’t be any chance of disliking each other’s pheromone scent since… they were the same.

Ji Anli was stunned.

No wonder their compatibility was one hundred percent. Their pheromone scents were identical…

This was indeed a perfect match, being exactly the same.

Lin Jing had been waiting for Ji Anli to press “accept” but this person was even slower to react than he was.

He could only lift his eyes to remind him but met Ji Anli’s somewhat dazed expression.

The other asked hoarsely, “You said our pheromone scents are the same. We won’t suddenly differentiate into the same type, will we?”

Lin Jing was silent for a long time then said helplessly, “We’re both over eighteen, the possibility of that… is zero.”

He paused, unable to resist reminding, “It’s been two minutes, Mr. Ji. If you don’t press the button soon, it’ll be too late.”

Ji Anli’s ears tingled at the almost whispered last three words from Lin Jing. His breathing became slightly heavy with restraint.

He snapped back to reality, “Sorry, I forgot about this!”

He hurriedly pressed “accept”

He was too shocked by the fact that they had the same pheromone scent to remember.

Lin Jing calmed himself down, finally regaining his composure and withdrew his already clean hand.

He glanced at the time, two minutes, exactly twice the time from before.

Almost simultaneously with Ji Anli pressing the button, the device emitted a sound, “Congratulations to the two testers for passing the second test.”

Two green cards were then dispensed, each marked with a 2.

Ji Anli, feeling complicated, handed one to Lin Jing, “Ahem, there’s one more test left. Shall we go now? Are you… okay?”

He genuinely forgot for a moment, it wasn’t intentional but thinking about Lin Jing’s unstable psychic state, he wondered if he might suddenly transform here.

Lin Jing, on the other hand, was the calm one, “It’s fine. Let’s go now.”

After speaking, he gave Ji Anli a deep look.

Actually, the third test would require transformation as well so it didn’t really matter if it happened now or later.

Ji Anli inexplicably understood and pretended not to notice.

After all, Lin Jing had offered to help him control his hidden ailment, he couldn’t just refuse, could he?

The two of them left the second room and went to the third room which was also the final test.

Inside was a completely enclosed room, brightly lit, with no windows.

It seemed that comforting was considered a private matter between partners so there was only an “accept” and “not accept” button on the door, along with two vials of spray designed to prematurely trigger the heat and rut periods

Ji Anli studied it for a moment, his eyes lighting up.

“It seems like the third task is much easier than we thought. As long as partners choose to accept it themselves, it doesn’t really matter if there’s any soothing involved, right?”

Lin Jing picked up two cans of spray and shook his head.

“This is something that must be used.”

Once it’s used, there’s no avoiding it.

Ji Anli leaned in for a closer look and indeed saw a small warning on the spray.

No wonder they had to give out the inhibitors in advance.

Having gone through the first two times, Ji Anli was quite calm.

“Who goes first? Do you spray first or should I?”

Lin Jing said, “You go first. Let’s make sure there won’t be any issues on your end.”

Ji Anli thought it over and agreed.

After all, as long as his healing ability was still there, he could pull Lin Jing back from any case, like such a severe mental breakdown last night.

This time, it was just a mild stimulus so it should be fine, right?

Having made up his mind, Ji Anli decisively picked up the spray for the heat stimulation period and sprayed it on himself.

Once used, the spray indeed flashed, indicating it had been activated.

Almost simultaneously, Ji Anli felt a reaction stronger than the one from the second room but still within control.

Next to him, Lin Jing, unsure if Ji Anli’s hidden ailment would act up immediately or later, simply transformed back into his second form preemptively.

Just as Ji Anli felt a buzz in his head, his vision blurred for a moment and he looked over instinctively.

He saw a majestic snow wolf appear right in front of him.

Unlike last night, when it was too dark to see clearly, this time, seeing it up close, something seemed to explode in Ji Anli’s mind and he couldn’t tear his gaze away from the snow wolf.
